Discover the tranquil beauty of the Chesterfield Canal on one of our hire boats.
Starting from our base at West Stockwith Canal Basin near Gainsborough, meander through peaceful rolling countryside with unspoiled villages and small market towns to explore on the way.
The boating is easy at first with well-spaced locks which introduce you gently to the pleasures of a canal boat holiday. After Retford, the countryside is more undulating and the charming narrow locks, dating from 1777, are frequently met.
The recently restored canal beyond Shireoaks Basin up to Kiverton Park (Sheffield) will take a cruising time of around 60 hours with the return trip of 70 miles passing through 69 locks.
Beyond Shireoaks is a stroll along the towpath to view the picturesque upper reaches of the canal and the current lock restorations are recommended for those interested in canal heritage.
Leisurely trace your way back to West Stockwith (home base) revisiting some (if not all!) of the twenty or so public houses along the way to complete your holiday!
